      Tribute to the Rainbow Flag
Freda Gray, Grand Color Bearer 1949
      Wallace Assembly No. 2, Idaho
(given at the 1949 WA/ID/AK Grand Assembly)

When God created the Rainbow, symbol of our Order, He painted the most beautiful picture ever to be seen.

He gave us the red ray as a symbol of love.

The orange ray is to remind us of the beauty of religion.

The yellow ray is for nature.

He then painted the green ray and said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in Me though he were dead, yet shall he live, and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die."

The blue ray was painted to ever symbolize fidelity.

Next a ray of indigo was painted that we should ever remember patriotism.

And last, by by no means least, the violet ray for service.

Thus God created our Rainbow. May we ever remember, as we see it in the heavens, the many beautiful lessons it teaches us.

Rainbow Banner Tribute II -- Loeta Anderson, Grand Fidelity in CA, 1970-71

Rainbow Girls pay tribute to their Rainbow Banner, not as a flag of seven colors, but as a symbol of seven lessons -- ideals impressed deeply in the hearts of all Rainbow Girls. We pay tribute to our flag and give thanks lovingly to God for giving us the beautiful rainbow and its inspiring significance.

And so it came ot pass,
      God mixed some colors bright,
And He said "Let there be day,"
      And soon came the light.

      God placed His bright rainbow
In the sky for all to see,
He placed it there as a lesson,
      For both you and me.

      The red arc represents love.
      A love that cannot die,
Love for God, country and parents,
      This red arc exemplifies.

      The orange arc is religion,
      One that does not enslave.
A religion that seeks to enlighten,
Is man's key to being saved.

      The yellow arc is nature,
The sky, the birds, the trees.
      God's great out of doors,
      Consists of all of these.

      The green arc, immortality,
A belief that life goes on.
      God's gift of life everlasting,
      WOrthy men may depend upon.

      The fifth arc is fidelity,
For loyalty the color is blue,
To our country and to our God,
We should strive to remain true.

      The indigo arc is patriotism.
A love and faith in our land,
A belief that in troubled times,
Men can work hand in hand.

      Our violet arc is service,
      Man's charity to man,
      Giving thyself in service,
      Whenever we possibly can.

      And when our final arc
      Was placed beside the rest,
      God looked upon His rainbow,
And the world He then did bless.

      Our rainbow in the heavens,
God's token from Him to thee.
      A token of His faith,
      His love for humanity.

Rainbow Banner Tribute III -- Susan Brady, PWA, Arroyo Grand Assembly, CA

As I looked into the sky, following a dark, stormy day, I noticed that the clouds began to part and a beautiful rainbow appeared -- a rainbow with seven brilliant colors, blended together to form an expanded arch across the sky. This rainbow remembed me of my assembly, our Rainbow Banner, and of seven meaningful lessons we are taught in our Order.

The red in our flag stands for love, and we are taught to love our family and friends, and above all, our Creator.

Orange symbolizes the heroic in religion and the belief in the existence of one true and living God.

The bright hue of yellow reveals nature and the beauty of the cool, green meadows and colorful wildflowers.

Green is immortality, a promise of God for eternal life for those who believe.

Fidelity, the light shade of blue, reminds us to be loyal and faithful to God and to each other.

Indigo, the intense color of patriotism shows us the beauty of our country and our flag, which we must defend at all times.

Service, the violet ray, is one of the most important lessons taught to us because we are given the chance to help others less fortunate than ourselves.

Through the seven lessons of the rainbow, together with Faith, Hope, and Charity, we find at the end of our rainbow, a Pot of Gold filled with the treasures of life.

Through love and service, you too can find a Pot of Gold, and always remember that after every storm comes a rainbow.

Rainbow Banner Tribute IV -- Patricia Schroeder, PWA, Lompoc Assembly, CA

The Rainbow Flag -- unusual looking, isn't it? Who ever heard of a flag made up of seven different colors? Yet this is the flag which thousands of girls between the ages of 11 and 20 have chosen to follow. Its seven colors: red -- love, orange -- religion, yellow -- nature, green -- immortality, blue -- fidelity, indigo -- patriotism, violet -- service, represent the goals we seek to achieve not only during our rainbow life but for live eternal. Wrapped up in its folds are the dreams, the hopes, and the lives of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.

The color bar of red -- "Love thy God with all thy heart." Orange -- "Religion should be our steering wheel, not our spare tire." Yellow -- "Nature is man's religious book, with lessons for everyday." Green -- "I believe in the immortality of the soul, because I have within me immortal longings." Blue -- "Fidelity is loyalty to God, loyalty to kindred and friends." Indigo -- "Patriotism is a tune and it must be sung together by all Americans." And finally, violet -- "The highest reward for man's service is not what he gets for it, but what he becomes by it." Yes, to you it is an unusual looking flag, but to those who hold fast to its teachingsit offers a way to improve and offers a way of learning. This is the life of a Rainbow Girl. For we are contented to love it, follow it, and to believe in it... after all, we are what it is all about ... the members of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.
