California Flag Tribute Do you know me? Sure, you know who I am. You ve seen me around. But do you know me?
Written In 1998 by Courtney Rae Miller,
Past Grand Executive Committee Member and California Flag Bearer
Placerville Assembly #19, Placerville, CA
I was created 151 years ago by William C. Todd and his small band of rebel Bear Flaggers . They were the early Californians, seeking their independence from Mexico, and I was their symbol of Freedom. Soon, though, I was wrapped up and put away, and the American Flag took my place. Then, in 1911, I was taken out, dust shaken from me and adopted as the official state flag.
I was there when James Marshall discovered gold in Coloma. I waved proudly as the first assembly, San Francisco #1, of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls was instituted in 1925. The small band of rebels believed in me, and it is because of them that I still help to represent California today.
I am the giant redwoods, the golden poppies, the yellow grain fields, the green fertile valleys, the blue pacific, the deep blue lakes and the purple Sierras. I am you, your parents and your neighbor down the road. I am everything you see everyday.
So let me ask again, . . .do you know me?
You should, because I am your flag, the flag of the great state of California
California Flag Tribute II Welcome to California, I'll be your guide for this evening's tour through the sunny state. Please keep your hands and feet inside the room and remain seated please.

Our first stop will be El Dorado county which is famous for it's rich soil. James Marshall, a man who worked at Sutter's Mill, one of the most well-known historic landmarks in California, discovered gold here in 1848.
Next, I would like to show you a beautiful sparkling bay surrounding one of the largest cities in the nation. While visiting San Francisco, you can experience fine dining, shopping, and entertainment. You can also catch a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, according to Popular Mechanic's magazine.
Everybody had better put on their most stylish shades, because we've just arrived in Hollywood, where, day or night, you can always spot a star. LA is rich with the many diverse lifestyles of the people who live and visit there.
Now, I must draw your attention to one, very important detail. No matter where you are along this amazing state, you can always spot a California flag waving in the air, or perched on a building. It is a symbol of our culture, heritage, and, it is a symbol of all the treasures locked within the Golden State of California.
Thank you for all of your cooperation and enthusiasm throughout this tour, and on behalf of Bear Flag Tours, I hope to see you soon!
