- Eastern Star member's ring, mine. This was my grandmother's, and passed along to me when I was Initiated into Star. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried when my dad presented it to me during the meeting. The diamond came out of a white gold filigree ring that my grandfather gave to her years ago (I still have that ring, too, reset with an emerald). The star points are synthetic. I'm not sure about the stones around the edge of the ring.

- Eastern Star member's pin, mine. This isn't an heirloom; my father won this in a poker game in Reno, Nevada in the early 80's. My mom didn't want it (she likes yellow gold), so I claimed it. It's 18kt white gold, filigree style, and I believe those are real diamonds, though I've never bothered to find out for sure.

- Felt pin-on, belonging to my grandmother. I know the star's upside-down, but I found it like this, and I'm not rearranging the pins. Clockwise from top: 25-year Member pin, and a little enameled cat stickpin in pink, red, and white; DeMolay Mother pin (from the mid-50's[*]); a one-of-a-kind, 14kt white gold & diamond Daughters of the Nile pin [crafted by Kenmor Jewelers in Sanger, CA around 1950 at my grandmother's request]; 50-year Member in California pin; OES pin connected to DotN pin on chain.
[*] The significance of the pearls and red jewel on the DeMolay pin: the 10 pearls represent the original ten members of DeMolay. As they pass on, the pearl is replaced by a red jewel. The first of the original ten boys passed away in 1942. Today (6/2001), there is only one pearl left.

- A really old, probably 1920's or earlier, Officer's pin for the station of Martha. Celluloid and tin, I think. Something about this pin was appealing to me, I think the logo with the five women in the middle, and I had to buy it. There is a bar across the back that is meant to hold a ribbon. I have seen a similar badge (with the Chapter name at the top, and "Member" where mine has "Martha") that had a reversable ribbon on it -- one side was a stripe of the five colors, and the other was deep violet with gold fringe at the bottom.

- OES Demitasse cup and saucer. This set is very lovely; the handle on the cup is very pretty. It is hand-painted, and very small. See a scan of the saucer, and a close-up view of the center of this saucer.

- A silver-colored souvenir spoon with the OES logo on it. See a close-up of the top. It's nothing fancy, but I was offered it for free by a jeweler who knew I was a member of Eastern Star.

- This is an adorable hand-painted ceramic vase with gold accents, which I came across a few years ago. It is manufactured by Temple Treasures, and was made in Japan, likely during the 1950's or 60's. It has a nice, light amount of crazing in the glaze. It is a fairly common item.

- Order of the Eastern Star Holy Bible, with a foreword by Rev. W. Mark Sexson, entitled "History and Facts concerning the Order of Eastern Star", revised 1941. (Transcription forthcoming!) This bible is in fairly good shape; the ribbon markers are frayed and faded. It smells like it was stored near a lavender sachet. The color page where the inscription goes has been torn out, sadly. "Agnes" and "Paige" and their phone numbers were written on the inside cover, then scribbled over.

- Gold-tone, heart-shaped pin with glass emblems that spin around. One side is the Eastern Star emblem, the other is the Amaranth emblem. It does spin, but it does tend to catch on the side of the heart if you try and spin it fast. It's only costume jewelry, so it's no big deal. I purchased this in anticipation of joining Amaranth this fall (yay!), and think it will be cute to have something different to wear.

- An unused OES postcard, age unknown. Made by the Sandford Card Co. of Dansville, New York. The verse on the card says: "We haven't seen you, lately, And lest you forget us, quite, We're sending this card, to remind you, That we meet next ______ night."

- The blue slipper pin. Blue and white enamel on unmarked metal (perhaps 10kt gold?). I purchased this with the intention to wear on my the lapel of my coat when I'm travelling by myself. What is this item, exactly? Read an article about it.

A tiny 10kt gold Amaranth member pin. Very nicely detailed.
I'll fill in more after I'm initiated this fall and can explain it better!

A costume jewelry pendant with the Order of the Amaranth emblem. Wreath has been covered in green enamel, which I'm not sure I like. Rhinestones surround the copper-colored emblem. 16" gold-tone necklace is attached.

Old Amaranth emblem. Amaranth used to be similar to the third degree, or perhaps joining the Scottish or York Rite. There were originally three degrees of "Adoptive Masonry": Order of the Eastern Star, Queen of the South, and Order of the Amaranth. You had to be an OES member to join Amaranth. They "split off" in the teens or early 20's, and you no longer had to join OES before joining Amaranth.
This is a beautiful pin, and I believe it to be custom-made. On the back, very faintly etched, is "BCE" in block letters, and "Drs" in cursive.
