Silver bracelet - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Charm bracelet, belonging to Patricia. I purchased this from a woman who used to be in Rainbow back East somewhere, during the early 60's. These were the only charms she was able to locate while searching, though she was sure there had been several more. They were all loose; I added them to the bracelet to prevent losing any. The detail on the lambskin apron is nice; you can see the fringed ties on the side of it.
    • Rainbow Silver Charm Bracelet, nearly complete - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Charm Bracelet, belonging to Bobbie (Roberta) . She was a member of Greenville Assembly #97 in Greenville, Pennsylvania during the 1950's. There is a vacant space between the dove (Faith) and money bag (Charity), where the anchor (Hope) should be. Three other charms keep this from being "complete", but it's likely she didn't hold these offices. This was purchased from her daughter.
    • Rainbow Merit Bars - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Rainbow Merit Bars. These are very interesting. I've been told that some Assemblies, back in the 50's and 60's, would keep giving out service bars after the girl completed her first "set". Can you imagine the competition between girls to see how many bars you could earn? I can picture brag rags trailing on the floor behind people!

Check out a close-up of the top. Merit Award and Attendance? Were there supposed to be "Attendance" bars in addition to the "Service" ones? Also, take a look at the back of this set, too. The top and some of the bars have this weird patterning on the back, which I've never seen before. They almost look new, but I don't think they are! Can anyone help me ID the maker, or date them?

    • Officer's Jewel - Service - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Rainbow Officer's jewel, Sister of Service. Did you ever feel so sorry for something that you just had to take care of it? That's what I felt when I ran across this poor jewel. The violet enamel is scratched up and chipped in one corner, the whole item is all beat up, and it looks like someone tried painting it silver at some point (look closely at the wreath and the left side of the color bar, and you'll see what I mean). I hope to figure out how to best clean it up. It could be a lovely piece, excluding the chipped enamel.

For those who don't know, this is normally attached to a necklace (made of ribbon, cord or beads,) and worn by the Officer during the meeting.

    • Old Rainbow W.A. pin - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Worthy Advisor, or Past Worthy Advisor pin. From New Haven Assembly No. 2 (which is engraved on top), in Connecticut. I recently saw a similar one from Assembly No. 1 in Connecticut, that had the girl's name engraved on the top, and the dates 1927-1928, so I assume this is from a similar period. The ribbon is black! It has a faux pearl in the middle, under the rainbow (see the gold "R" on top?). I cannot tell for certain what the maker's hallmark on the back is, but it looks like "Jeters".
    • Rainbow Advisor pin - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • A 1925 Advisor's Pin. Probably the Mother Advisor. I've seen other M.A. pins with the shepherd's crook, and though the MA jewel is "a circle of gold", I'm assuming there's an allusion to the shepherd guiding the flock in there somewhere. There is a very teeny (and probably faux) pearl at the center bottom of the rainbow. Inscription on the back reads: "Mrs. Bessie R. Patrick, April 13, 1925".
    • Possible PWA Jewel - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • A loose charm, which I believe to be the bottom of a Past Worthy Advisor's jewel, found in Massachusetts. Engraving on the back states "May 26, 1956 / Sept. 22, 1956", which corresponds with the "summer term" is a giveaway. The hallmark on this appears to be a "J" or a "3" in a box. No clue who the maker is.
    • Rainbow Mother pin - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • A Rainbow Mother pin. Age unknown, but I would guess 50's or 60's. On the back, next to the hinge, is a little ring. I have seen DeMolay and Rainbow Mother pins with an attached gavel (meaning they were president of the Mother's Club), so I assume that is what the ring is for.
    • Member pin in 10k gold - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Member pin. This is one of my favorite pins. 10kt gold (not plated!), with beautiful detailing. Back is stamped "10k", has the Stange hallmark, and "Pat. 8200-" (might be 82000 or 82006; I don't have a jeweler's loop.) Enamel is clear (with exception of white, indigo, and violet), and has crazed slightly, which makes it glitter. It's big, for a member pin... the bow is 5/8" wide, and almost 1/2" tall. This was found in New Jersey.
    • Past Worthy Advisor pin in 10k gold - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Past Worthy Advisor's pin. Back is stamped "10K", "®" and has the Stange hallmark. This might be a later, or lower-quality pin. Compare it with the member pin on the left, and look closely. Under the handshake on this PWA pin is extra metal. Also, where the chain attaches to the bow, it's not a nice, round ring, it's stamped. Overall, still a nice piece, however. Enamel is beautiful. Gavel is unmarked. It may be that the gavel was purchased later, to replace the pot of gold.
    • Rainbow Mother Advisor's pin - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Mother Advisor's pin. The Rainbow emblem, the surrounding wreath, and the pot of gold are all stamped 14k. No other marks on the back. The pot of gold has the number 48 embossed on the front. I am at a loss to describe what this pin is, exactly, so I am speculating, based on a few facts. 1.) I know that Grand Officer pins have wreaths around them. 2.) I have seen M.A. pins with the crook attached to them, like this. 3.) The 48 could signify 1948, as it seems weird to have a pot of gold with an Assembly number on it. Could this be a pin belonging to a M.A. for a 1948 Grand Assembly? This was discovered in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
    • Rainbow tri-colored gold ring - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Rainbow member's ring in three colors of 10kt gold. This ring belonged to Joy, who was a Rainbow Girl in Montana in the early to mid 50's. The wreath is white gold, the two flowers on the top and bottom are rose gold, and the shank is yellow gold. It is a size 9, or 9&1/4 (the size ring I wear). See the detail on the side of the ring. Some of the enamel has discolored with time, and the ring is well-worn (well-loved), which leads me to believe it was worn often. It is still a lovely piece, with a wonderful history to it. This was purchased from a friend of the family.
    • Engraved Grand Cross - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Grand Cross with name engraved on back. This was presented to Edith R___, who was a member of Eastern Star, on June 23, 1955. I have scanned the back of the medal, but blurred out her last name. This, and the Grand Cross on the right, was purchased from Edith's daughter-in-law.
    • Engraved Grand Cross - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Grand Cross with name engraved on back. This was presented to Charles E. R___, on June 23, 1955. I have scanned the back of the medal, but blurred his last name. This Grand Cross belonged to the husband of Edith, whose Grand Cross appears on the left.

I think engraving Grand Crosses with the recipient's name is a wonderful idea.

    • Grand Cross Costume Jewelry pin - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Grand Cross of Color jeweled pin. Stamped "ORA" on the back (a maker of costume jewelry). This is such a beautiful pin! This cross, along with the Grand Cross to the right, was found in the posessions of Grace Z_______, an Eastern Star member, and was purchased from her daughter (a former Rainbow Girl).
    • Grand Cross of Color - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Grand Cross of Color. Purchased with the gold cross to the left. Ribbon has a buckle-style adjusting clasp. It belonged to Grace Z_______. Her Grand Cross card, and a Rainbow Bible, are located on the Books, Papers & more page.
    • Very old Merit Bars - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Very old set of merit bars. The top of the Merit Award & Attendance pin has "Waltham #2" engraved on it. (I believe this is Waltham, Massachusetts?) The four bars shown are: red, Ritual; green, Loyalty; blue, Friendliness; yellow, Service. I believe other bars were Petitions, Benevolences, and Membership. This is a beautiful set; the enamel is so nice compared to the bars and other jewelry produced today.
    • tiny Rainbow ring - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • 14kt white gold Rainbow ring, size 4&1/2. This thing is SMALL. The background behind the emblem appears to be mother-of-pearl. It's a darling little ring. There is a pinhole in the white enamel to the right of the "R", otherwise it's perfect.
    • Merit Bars, incomplete set - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Older Merit Bars, incomplete set. This set is nothing spectacular; the only interesting thing about this set is that lettering of "Service" isn't as tall as others sets I've seen, and the top Merit pin is like the "modern" one I have, only nicer, and with finer detail. The orange bar is starting to discolor and look cruddy, but otherwise they're in nice shape.
    • incomplete Merit Bars - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy
    • Older Merit Bars, incomplete set. When I bought this set, it was complete, with all the bars identical and a nice top pin. What happened, you ask? The USPS happened. It wasn't packed well for mailing, and got bunched up in the envelope and eaten by the sorting machines. This was all they found of it, and they packed it into a plastic "we're sorry" envelope and sent it my way. I was very sad when it arrived.
    • Newer Rainbow member pin - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy NEW icon - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy Rainbow member pin. This pin has a hole on the right to link a chain, in addition to the one on the back where the Pot of Gold is attached. I think the pot should be on the other side; perhaps the spot on the left is for a Worthy Advisor's gavel. This is part of a "lot" I purchased from Amy, a Majority Past Grand Officer. Other items of hers can be seen on the Collectables page.
teeny 12kt Rainbow member pin - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy NEW icon - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy Teeny, vintage Rainbow Girls' member pin with attached pot of gold. Both marked "1/20 12kt" on the back. Hallmark is a diamond with an "I" in the middle.
Rhode Island Merit Bars - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy NEW icon - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy This set was intriguing; the Merit bars are like the "Waltham" ones, but the top pin is very different. It resembles the really long set (above), but instead of saying "Attendance", it says "Rhode Island". Bars are: red, Attendance; indigo, Offering; yellow, Music; blue, Charity; orange, Petitions. This belonged to Ginny, whose other items can be seen on the Collectables page.
Merit Bars - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy NEW icon - image copyright Rainbow.org; do not copy Rainbow Merit bars, incomplete set. The orange enamel has fallen out between the "V" and the "I". The Merit top pin is not flat, but kind of curves out, and is really quite pretty.
