Listed below are details about the Grand Assembly of Oklahoma,
home of Mother Assembly No. 1, first Rainbow Assembly in the world.
Oklahoma
compiled on 08-31-01
Local (Assembly) Level:
Moore Assembly No. ?, Moore:
Muskogee Assembly No. 10, Muskogee:
- For their Installations, the girls all wear white formals.
W. Mark Sexson Assembly No. 218, Tulsa:
- Muskogee Assembly meets in the Masonic Temple in our town. It is a large 2 story cement building that is used by OES, DeMolay, Rainbow and of course Masons.
- Our assembly is sponsored by Hope Chapter OES.
- We are in the same district as Mother Assembly No. 1.
- We don't have many traditions. They have faded in the past years. We hold slumber parties and tell ghost stories about our Masonic Temple. We also have a pizza party, like many other assemblies, the night of appointment announcements at Grand Assembly.
- For her term, the Worthy Advisor decides on most everything, including the programs. Each WA chooses her own mascot, her assembly does not decide for her! Some even have dresses made with their mascots on them, like Tigger or Bears, etc. The WA-elect gets to choose if she wants special music, she decides her installing team, and most things like that. She also does a local service project for her term.
- Installations are held on any day. Some are at regular meetings and some are on weekends. Some are at night and some are afternoon. Some Assemblies have dances afterwards, if they have a close bond to their local Demolay Chapter, or a Chapter close by.
- At Installation, the officers have carry-in pieces. Most installations include a gift for the installing team from the WA, a gift to the WA from the Assembly. There is a pin exchange between the PWA and WA. And there is no set color for the installation dresses.
- There are some special officers, if the WA decides to choose them, like bible bearer. And the WA decides who she want to be in the Installation, so if she wants Shriners, OES, etc. to do something it can be done.
- In our Assembly, the crown and WA pin are passsed down.
- We have Rainbow dads. These men help us travel throughout the year. They are appointed (or reappointed) annually, and they are chosed by the Advisory Board.
- W. Mark Sexson Assembly meets at a Demolay Chapter house, and is sponsored by a local Masonic Lodge.
- For Installation, the Worthy Advisor-elect makes all the decisions herself and can really have anything she wants, within reason. She chooses her own mascot.
- Our Installations can be anytime, no certain day. We can have a dance afterwards if we would like.
- For Installation, we have carry-ins. The Worthy Advisor can give a gift if she wants to. The only time we wear a certain dress to an Installation is the Installation after Grand Assembly, and only if we entered into Dress Competiton.
- We do not have any other Installing Officers. Other organizations only present things under Good of the Order (usually a gift).
- We have a Rainbow Dad, who is the Chairman of our board.
- We have awards given out at our Installations that are what we have earned by service points.
- At Farewell, the Assembly normally comes up with something to give the out-going Worthy Advisor that had something to do with her term.
Area (District) Level:
Grand (State) Level:
- We can wear crinolines, but no hoops and pantaloons.
- Our Grand Assembly is held on Memorial Day weekend every year.
- We have a male Supreme Inspector.
- We have state and local mascots. The state is chosen by the GWA and local, the WA.
- Each Assembly does their own opening march. We have a march contest at GA, so they may do that march or a set opening march that they have.
- We sing the Rainbow song at the end of meetings. This is a song written by Joe Blair for Oklahoma Rainbow.
I give my heart and my hand
to you Rainbow mine
Knowing that I understand
your teachings so divine
I give them not for today
but my pledges are for always
may your colors keep glowing
for we're ever knowing
that Rainbow
you'll always be mine
- We have an annual slide show at Grand Assembly.
- Grand Officers. Grand Charity moves up to become the Grand Worthy Advisor. You have to apply to be Grand Charity and go through an interview process. Charity is chosen by our SI and Grand Exec. Committee.
- You can be a Grand Officer multiple times.
- Grand Cross Team members are considered Grand Officers.
- The Grand Worthy Advisor chooses theme, Grand Assembly dresses, mascot, service project, etc.
- Each district has their own Grand Cross ceremony in November.
- Our Memorial Team is made of younger Rainbow members.
