      Local (Assembly) Level:

Nugget Assembly No. 13, Anchorage: (Instituted March 25, 1961)

      • Nugget meets at the Anchorage Masonic Center. They are sponsored by Denali Chapter #16 Order of the Eastern Star.

      • Assembly Tradition. Every time you say the G-Word (guys) instead of "girls", you have to do Ali-Babas. Those are when you get on your knees, strech your arms over your head and and bow to the floor, touching your hands to the floor saying "Oh Ali-Baba" three times. You do this to the highest ranking officer in attendance. It's usually our Grand Deputy.

      • The Worthy Advisor picks Mascot, Colors, Flower, Symbol, Theme, Motto, Song and Bible Verse for her term.

      • Installations are usually on weekends. Practice and Installation all on a Saturday, but sometimes practice is on Saturday and Installation is on Sunday. It's the incoming Worthy Advisor's choice. They're usually held in the afternoon.

      • The incoming Worthy Advisor makes her own carry-ins, which the girls get to keep. Also the WA gives her Installing Officers presents. She also is supposed to make pedestal decorations, which the officers get to keep at the end of the term.

      • Special events at Installation. There's a Special Installing officer who just installs the Worthy Advisor, this is usually someone who is special to the incoming Worthy Advisor. Master of Ceremonies is usually the outgoing Worthy Advisor who will open the Installation and do the flag and gavel portion of Installation. We have had DeMolay escorts, father's escorts and Mason escorts. The Eastern Star Chapters give the Assembly a monetary donation at every Installation.
      • Passed down items. Traveling Worthy Advisor's jewel and traveling Mother Advisor's jewel.

      • Nugget has a Rainbow Dad, who is choosen by the Worthy Advisor each term.

      • On the first meeting of the new term, the Jr. Past Worthy Advisor recieves a quilt of her colors from the Advisory Board and a gold nugget from the Assembly.

      • Installation. The Assembly does a skit for the new Worthy Advisor, and the Worthy Associate Advisor gives the Worthy Advisor her mascot. At the end of regular meetings we sometimes sing a song called "We are the Rainbow Girls", which goes like this: (to the tune of tarara boom dea)

          We are the Rainbow Girls
we wear our hair in curls
          we always aim to please
          with skirts above our knees.
And when we kiss the boys
we make a lot of noise
          we are the Rainbow Girls
          and we love you
          muuuaaaaahhhhh

      • Grandies in Alaska. We have the usual Grand Floor Officers, plus Lecturer, Historian, Grand Exec. Board & Grand Pages, Grand Mother Advisor (selected by the newly elected GWA). The Grand Line officers, Recorder, and Treasurer are elected by the Past Worthy Advisors, Current Worthy Advisors, Current WAA's, and Current Charitys in attendance at Grand Assembly. The rest are selected by the Supreme Deputy, Grand Deputies, and Adult Grand Exec. Board at the Friday night meeting after elections at Grand Assembly.
      • Grand Representatives are called Fraternal Correspondents. These girls can be any member of an Assembly (including Grandies) who wish to be a correspondent. They are choosen by the Director of Fraternal Correspondents.

      • In Alaska to be considered for a Grand Office you must be a PWA or Current WA and have your 2nd Proficiency. To be elegible to be elected GWA you must have Grand Cross. You can be appointed to Grand Choir Director, Musician, Soloist, and Grand Exec. Board if you are not a WA or PWA. You can hold as many Grand Offices as you wish, up until you are 21.

      • Grand Officer duties are as follows:

          1. Make one official visit to you own assembly each term.
          2. Make as many official visits with the GWA as possible
          3. Make an effort to visit other assemblies in your area
          4. Always wear a long formal on any official visit or when being introduced in your own assembly.
          5. Be as active as possible in your assembly, but do not be a nuisance tot he Worthy Advisor.
          6. You must write a letter at least once a (grand) year to the Aurora (state newsletter) your first letter should include a picture of yourself.
          7. Try and make a scrapbook for viewing at Grand Assembly.

      • There is no official Grand Cross of Color Team. The director of the Grand Cross askes Grand Officers to take part in the ceremony.

      • Grand Choir. All non-grandie Rainbow girls in attendance are expected to be in the Grand Choir.

      • Grand Pages. There can be up to 8 Grand Pages. These girls are usually JPWA and Current WA's. But just because you are a JPWA or WA you shouldn't expect to be appointed as a Grand Page. The Pages are:

          Page to the GWA
          Page to the GWAA
          Page to Grand Charity
          Page to Grand Hope
          Page to Grand Recorder
          Page to Supreme Officers
Page to the Grand Deputies & Grand Exec. Board
Page to the Out of state visitors

Pages also carry the flags (American, Alaskan, Christian, and Rainbow) and do the Flag tributes at the Informal Opening of Grand Assembly.

      • Whichever Assembly is hosting Grand Assembly is responsible for providing the Tilers/Sentinels. Their job is to make sure no one except those who are permitted to attend closed meetings of Rainbow enter and to keep at a minimum the entrance and exit of persons.

      • Dress code for Grand Assembly. Some Assemblies choose to wear "look-alike" dresses. At all Grand Assembly Sessions you are expected to wear formals.

      • Each Grand Worthy Advisor chooses a pattern and material for her Grand Officers to wear. (Example: this year the GWA's colors were Green, Blue and White: the Grand Line Officers wore Green, Pages wore Blue and the rest of the Grand Officers wore White.)

      • The Supreme Deputy/Inspector chooses the following adult appointments:

          Editor of the Aurora
          Sound systems
          Proceedings
          Director of the Fraternal Correspondents
          Musician
          Choir Director
          Keeper of the Jewels

      • Other Grand Assembly Traditions. We have a Baby dedication & Majority Service.

      • Announcement of Grand Cross designates. Each Grand Deputy will announce the designates for the Grand Cross of Color in March or April each year. Our Grand Deputy has a ceremony that she does with Masters of the Grand Cross filling the stations of WA, WAA, Charity, Hope, Faith, Chaplain and Drill Leader. This ceremony explains what Grand Cross is and how the designates are chosen. At the end of the ceremony the WAA announces the names of the new designates from our Assembly. Very moving and beautiful ceremony. The designates are then expected to attend Grand Assembly to go through the Grand Cross Ceremony.

      • At the Grand Worthy Advisor's offical visit each Assembly gives the GWA a charm that represents the Assembly, i.e. Nugget #13 - gold nugget; Anchorage #5 - Anchor; Friendship #16 - clasped hands; Fairbanks #1 - Heart (Fairbanks is the golden heart city in AK); Juneau #3 - A figurine of a girl's head.
